Infinite Expansion Postcard
Bring a touch of Mike Kelley home with you—or mail it off to someone who needs an extra dose of art in their lives. The Broad’s Kelley work,Infinite Expansion(1983)—is a six-part drawing associated with one of his most important early performances,The Sublime. The composition references the romantic tradition in which the sublime, achieved through nature, was considered among the most important goals and purposes of art—and, in Kelley’s hands, the house and mountains are presented at a humble rather than heroic scale, and a hallucinatory burst of woodgrain and energy waves dominates the frame. Originally six parts superimposed, done in acrylic on paper, it is reproduced on this graphic postcard.
